Governor signs bill for new homes grant

On March 19, Gov. Jon Huntsman signed Senate Bill 260, which creates a fund that would provide grants of $6,000 to home buyers who finance the purchase of a newly constructed, never-occupied residence in Utah using a 30-year (or less) fixed-rate mortgage.

Enhanced tax credit provides $8,000 incentive to first-time home buyers

One of the biggest wins for first-time home buyers in President Obama's economic stimulus bill is a tax credit up to $8,000 for qualified purchases of a primary residence. Increased from last year's original $7,500 home buyer tax credit, this new incentive does not have to be repaid, making it a true tax credit rather than an interest-free loan.

The National Association of REALTORS® estimates there will be an additional 300,000 home sales because of the credit, which NAR Chief Economist Lawrence Yun says will help reduce inventory levels and stabilize prices in many parts of the country.

Although the plan is not designed to replace traditional major medical coverage, it may be a good option for REALTORS® looking for guaranteed coverage at an affordable rate for basic medical needs like doctor's office visits, surgeries, prescriptions, hospital stays, etc.
